Members of the Welsh Parliament, as part of the Cross-Party Group on Nuclear Energy, visited the National College for Nuclear (Southern Hub) at our Cannington campus, as they explore solutions to the skills challenges and solutions within the energy industry.
The group was hosted by Matt Tudor, Vice Principal of Strategy and Partnerships, and Paul Goss, Head of the National College for Nuclear. The delegation, including Vaughan Gething MS, Alun Davies MS, and Richard James, talked to students and staff, about the benefits of degree apprenticeships and the career opportunities.
Matt Tudor commented on the visit, "I was delighted to welcome members of the Welsh Parliament and Government to our campus. This visit highlights the crucial role that Colleges play within the local, region and national economies. The National College for Nuclear is an example of how we are supporting the government’s mission towards making Britain a clean energy superpower and I was delighted to be able to share best practise.”
Vaughan Gething MS said, "Seeing first-hand how University Centre Somerset prepares its students for future challenges in the nuclear sector has been enlightening. The degree apprenticeships offered here are pivotal in nurturing the next generation of skilled professionals who will drive the industry forward."
The visit from the Welsh Parliament members not only highlights the collaborative efforts between governmental bodies and educational institutions but also reinforces University Centre Somerset’s position at the forefront of nuclear education in the UK.
