Creative Arts students have spent a jam-packed two weeks in Los Angeles, sightseeing, attending the local art college, networking, and even meeting some A-list celebrities!
Their time Otis College of Art and Design was spent getting to know the students, exploring the faculty and college and getting involved in design, life drawing, product design and architecture sessions
The students arrived at the heigh of awards season and were lucky enough to experience the buss of Oscars weekend. They attended the Oscars pre-award makeup and hairstyling symposium, hearing from designers and artists about the making of their work. Hollywood A-lister Sebastian Stan was in attendance, as was Coralie Fargeat, the director of The Substance – the eventual winner of the Best Makeup and Hairstyling Oscar. If they weren’t starstruck enough after this, during lunch that day the students also saw Halle Berry.
Sightseeing during the following days included going up the Griffith Observatory and seeing the Hollywood sign and visiting the Hollywood Walk of Fame.
Further into the trip, the students visited Santa Monica, Venice Beach, Hollywood, Little Tokyo, Muscle Beach, La Brea, and Downtown.
Museum trips included The Broad, the Museum of Contemporary Art (MOCA), The Getty and Beyond the Streets art gallery.
The last leg of the trip included some industry collaboration.
The students finished their trip of a lifetime with a tour of Warner Brothers Studios and watching Jimmy Kimmel live!
‘We’ve explored, been inspired, met loads of amazing people, eaten some incredible food, walked thousands and thousands of steps (I’ve walked 208,323 steps on this trip alone) seen some incredible art, done some amazing things and have genuinely had life changing experiences!’ – Richard Shaffner, Course Leader.
This wonderful opportunity was made possible thanks to the Department for Education’s Turing Scheme. The Turing Scheme offers grant funding to support students to pursue study around the world – allowing students to develop their skills, gain international experience and boost their employability.
