This was University Centre Somerset's first game back since last year. They got off to a perfect start with Luke White scoring after 10 minutes, after Niall Carr’s powerful drive which the USW goalkeeper couldn't keep hold of.
On a very firm 3G surface and in windy conditions, it was hard to get the ball down to play. The game settled down with USW dominating possession but a well-marshalled defence of Stewart, Winter, Green and normal goalkeeper Creed who started at right-back were in no mood to concede today.
With chances from both teams in the first half, it was UCS who extended their lead through White, closing down a weak back pass, and the goalkeeper kick rebounded off White to put UCS into a 2-0 lead at half time.
The second half saw USW push more men forward which left more gaps for the forward players to exploit and if only the final pass was better on several occasions the lead would have been extended. Having said this Burchill, who was making his UCS debut in goal made some outstanding saves to earn his clean sheet.
On 65 minutes UCS extended their lead through the constant threat of Luke White who tapped in for his hat-trick.
With added time a desperate Tom Creed, who played the second half as a very attacking right-back trying to get on the score sheet, found the ball land at his feet from a corner and he fired into the roof of the net. You would never see Tom so happy after scoring.
Final score: USW 0 - UCS 4
Man of the match: Luke White for being a constant threat, his excellent defensive work for the team and also for scoring a hat trick.
