UCS apprentice named finalist at prestigious Semta Skills Awards 2020

University Centre Somerset apprentice, Michael Jones, has been confirmed as a finalist for the Graduate or Degree Apprentice of the Year at the Semta Skills Awards 2020.

Michael, who studies University Centre Somerset’s Higher Apprenticeship in Manufacturing Engineering (Electrical/Electronic) alongside his employment for multinational company Thales UK, has been shortlisted for the award that recognises graduates and degree apprentices who demonstrate excellent manufacturing and/or engineering skills that have a real impact on their employer’s business.

The Semta Skills Awards, celebrated annually, bring together prestigious representatives from the engineering and advanced manufacturing sectors to recognise talented individuals and organisations who embody Semta’s key qualities of dedication, innovation and skill. The 2020 awards will be held on 19 March at the exclusive 8 Northumberland Avenue in London.

Last year, Bridgwater & Taunton College saw off stiff competition from Jaguar Land Rover and Toyota Manufacturing to win the Skills Innovation of the Year Award – recognition for being one of the best training providers in the UK for hands-on practical experience within the nuclear sector, incorporating new technologies such as virtual and augmented reality.
