University Centre Somerset is excited to announce the continuation of the Further Education (FE) Initial Teacher Education (ITE) bursaries for the 2025/26.

These bursaries, made possible by the Department of Education (DfE) are designed for those who aspire to make an impact as educators in high-priority shortage subjects in the FE sector in England.

  • Mathematics £31,000
  • Science (including chemistry, physics and biology) £31,000
  • Engineering or Manufacturing £31,000
  • Computing £31,000
  • Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND) £15,000
  • English (capped at 100 places) £10,000

UCS currently offers two training routes into Further Educations and Skills teaching:

  • PGCE in FE and Skills, for those who already have a degree
  • Level 5 Certificate in Education, for those who don’t have a degree but have a relevant Level 3 qualification and subject specialist experience.

Both programmes are validated by the University of Plymouth and are available on a full- or part-time basis, enabling trainee teachers to gain a qualification from a prestigious university partner whilst studying flexibly right here in Somerset.
