BA (Hons) Graphic Media and Communication student Sarah Kellock has collected a prestigious Wooden Pencil award from the D&AD New Blood Awards.
The awards ceremony took place at the Oval Space in Bethnal Green in London. It was attended by award winners alongside their tutors and industry professionals from a variety of big-name companies including Adidas, Burger King and Microsoft.
Sarah won her pencil for her work on a campaign for mobile phone provider giffgaff. At the ceremony she met with Abi Pearl, Head of Advertising at giffgaff, who offered Sarah an internship over the summer at the company’s headquarters in Uxbridge.
Sarah said,
“Winning the award has been amazing and even though it was mainly judged on my copywriting, the Youtube-style advert I created added to the final outcome. I wouldn't have been able to do this without the technical workshops on the course as well as help from my teachers, especially on this occasion Julian Watkiss who is great with the filming and editing processes.”
Sarah’s tutor at University Centre Somerset, Lorna Sheppard, said,
“I am very proud of Sarah's achievements as this is one of the most prestigious student design awards going, with entries from all over the world. Her entry is a fantastic reflection on her growing portfolio of skills.”
This is the third time in four years that a University Centre Somerset student has been recognised by New Blood for their achievements.
