Last week, Bridgwater & Taunton College held its annual Apprenticeship Awards Evening at The McMillan Theatre to celebrate the success of its Apprenticeship provision across 11 award categories.
A key focus for the College has been Apprenticeship growth, bucking the national declining trend of Apprenticeships. BTC has increased Apprenticeship enrolments year on year, and offers programmes from Intermediate Level right through to Higher and Degree Level in a wide range of industry sectors.
University Centre Somerset was represented by three finalists in the Higher/Degree Level Apprentice of the Year category:
Nicola Homer, Level 5 Nursing Associate Apprentice
Stephen Miller, Level 4 Agricultural Management Apprentice
Kieran Shields, Level 6 Nuclear Engineering Apprentice
The Higher/Degree Level Apprentice of the Year award went to Stephen Miller. Stephen's tutors said,
"Stephen demonstrated an outstanding level of ability and professionalism. His attitude and enthusiasm were second-to-none and these qualities complemented his excellent development of ability and knowledge."
Stephen has now progressed on to the Agricultural Management degree programme at UCS and is hoping to achieve an industry placement with John Deere. His long-term aim is to work as a farm consultant alongside managing the arable and pig units on his family farm.
Stephen has also been nominated for an award at the Grow Somerset Talent Awards on 3 February - good luck Stephen!
