University Centre Somerset (UCS) was created in 2017 as a result of the merger between Bridgwater College and Somerset College. It is the higher education offer of Bridgwater & Taunton College and offers a broad range of qualifications across campuses in Taunton, Bridgwater and Cannington.
Its first six years have seen UCS expand and grow to meet the skills demands of employers in the south west region; the most recent addition to the curriculum being nursing degrees, revolutionising the way that local people in Somerset can access nurse training.
UCS is committed to transforming lives and unlocking the potential within each individual. Our mission is to guide and inspire our students to translate their talent into tangible real-life achievements and successful careers. We have created a new strapline to reflect these values; Degree for Real Life.
A cornerstone of our approach is our commitment to providing a supportive and enriching learning environment. Small class sizes and dedicated tutors provide ample opportunities for students to engage with teaching staff and participate in discussions and deliberations with their peers.
Our community is built on the principles of inclusivity and equality. We embrace the uniqueness of every individual and foster a welcoming atmosphere where everyone has the opportunity to thrive.
At UCS, we go beyond traditional education. We offer a range of programmes and initiatives designed to broaden horizons. Through work placements and strong industry partnerships, we provide practical experiences and real-world connections that enhance a student’s learning journey.
Our commitment to unlocking potential extends beyond the classroom. We provide comprehensive support services to ensure overall wellbeing and personal growth. From academic guidance to mental health resources, we are dedicated to nurturing every aspect of our students’ development.
The curriculum at UCS is organised into four faculties; Agriculture, Environmental Management and Ecology; Digital Innovation, Engineering and Clean Energy; Health, Wellbeing and Education; and Professional and Creative Industries.
