Mia Bryant, who is studying a BSc Hons in Countryside Managementwith the College's University Centre Somerset, has won a regional award, giving her an amazing opportunity to gain unbeatable work experience in fish management.
Now in its third year, the Anne Voss-Bark Memorial Award 2017, set up by Salmon & Trout Conservation UK (S&TC UK) with the Arundel Arms and Fario Club is open to young fisheries or aquatic students and offers the opportunity to study the practical elements of river restoration and management.
The award winner receives one week hands-on fisheries management and fly-fishing at the Arundel Sports Hotel from experienced river managers and gillies, and another week with the West Country Rivers Trust learning catchment management and water science from the Trust’s scientists.
On winning the award, Mia said,
"Over the period of my studies I have developed a great interest in freshwater conservation. The award has been a fantastic opportunity to gain further experience outside my studies and has been a great introduction to working alongside experienced and respected individuals and organisations."

"The award Mia has received is a deserved acknowledgement of her passion for river and fisheries conservation. Following her second year research project, she is now further investigating salmon and trout populations for her dissertation, and is maintaining her close links with the fisheries industries.
