We are delighted to share that University Centre Somerset graduate Jonathan Bryer has achieved bronze in the prestigious Farmers Club Pinnacle Awards.
The Pinnacle Awards are an opportunity for outstanding students from top university courses to demonstrate excellence in farm management. Jonathan was originally one of just eight finalists from across the country who would normally be invited to an Awards dinner at the Farmers Club in Whitehall, London. This year, with the format changing, Jonathan was placed in a final round of three, all of whom had online interviews with a judging panel. After the interviews, Gold, Silver and Bronze prizes were awarded.
21-year-old Jonathan, from Walton near Street, has, as part of his degree course at University Centre Somerset, researched and developed plans to construct a new robotic dairy enterprise. This project incorporated all aspects of farm management, focusing on elements such as animal welfare and environmental issues, whilst striving for and maintaining profitability. This has proven an excellent opportunity to combine Jonathan’s outstanding academic ability with the practical knowledge he developed on-farm whilst previously working at Barrington Organic Partnership. Jonathan has since graduated and moved to Wales to progress his career in Dairy Herd management.
Jonathan said,
“I am honoured to have been selected as a finalist for the Pinnacle Awards. It certainly makes the hard work and effort put into my degree course and assignments worth it! I am very thankful to all of my lecturers over the past three years, especially Dan Rood and Richard West for their wisdom and guidance in developing my knowledge and preparing me for my future after university.”
Dan Rood, Agriculture Course Leader at UCS, added,
“Jonathan is following in the path of many UCS students who have achieved success in previous Pinnacle Awards. My colleague, Richard West, has done a sterling job of helping all of these students with his tireless support and expertise. Whilst it is disappointing that the format of the awards has had to change this year, finishing within the top three is a tremendous achievement. Congratulations Jonathan.”
