As part of the ongoing partnership between Art for Life at Musgrove Park Hospital and the Creative Arts department at University Centre Somerset, BA (Hons) Graphic Media and Communication students have been invited to develop artwork for Fern maternity ward.
The students, who are all in the second year of their degree, were delighted to welcome representatives from Musgrove to the UCS campus in Taunton to see presentations of their final designs. After careful consideration, work by Bethany Knight and Matt Ludlam was chosen. Work will now begin on producing and installing the artwork on the windows, walls and floors in the ward.
This project has contributed to the Portfolio and Professional Practice module of the students’ degree programme. Art for Life works with colleagues and partners within the Hospital and the community and aims to create inspiring environments and experiences for patients, staff and visitors to Musgrove. In recent months, as part of this partnership working, students on this course have also created artwork for the Hospital’s Wordsworth and Coleridge wards.
Lorna Sheppard, Course Leader, said,
“We are delighted to continue our creative partnership with Art for Life, and thank the staff from Musgrove for coming across to our Arts House for the presentations. The students did a fantastic job of talking through their designs and we’re looking forward to seeing Bethany and Matt’s work on display in the Hospital.”
Lisa Harty, Art and Design Co-ordinator at Musgrove, added,
“Our annual College project is a valued part of Art for Life’s work, offering an opportunity for students from UCS to work on a live project for the Hospital. The Hospital benefits greatly from the creative input of the students. We are delighted that this on-going partnership with the College continues to take place and look forward to further projects in coming years.”
