Students have the opportunity to specialise in a particular makeup discipline and develop their skills in that area. We get lots of one-to-one time with our tutors and it’s been great to learn from industry professionals. They draw on their experience to prepare us for the world of work.
Career Progression: This course is highly respected within the media industry and successful students are equipped with the advanced skills required for a flourishing career. Our graduates have gone on to work on productions such as Game of Thrones, Star Wars, Dr Who, or to work for companies such as Madame Tussauds and the English National Opera. Other career progression routes include medical prosthetics and wigs, freelance makeup artistry and teaching.

For the interview, you will be asked to produce a portfolio that must demonstrate your creative skills, subject knowledge and enthusiasm for study.
This course requires the purchase of additional kit and materials. The amount required will depend on your projects and specialisms. Please see the course page on our website for further details.
In previous years, UCS has offered a scheme whereby UCS purchases kits at cost which students paid off in instalments. Please contact info@somerset.ac.uk to determine if such a scheme is still in operation at the time of your study.
The course fee is £8500.00* per year of study.

The course requires you to purchase a wide range of materials and equipment that you will need to complete the practical modules and these may be different in each year of the course. The course team are constantly reviewing and updating the lists which are subject to change however, the list below gives an idea of the items and the costs you should be prepared to pay. Kits of essentials can be purchased through UCS but through the duration of the course it is increasingly likely students will need to purchase their own materials specific to their areas of discipline as they develop.

Students are responsible for sourcing their own materials based on the materials they plan on using. They will complete a budget tracking form to keep track of costs during the first module. Materials for the top-up year could cost anything between £100 and £1500 depending on the materials used in each specialist area. All prices are subject to change.
