Creative Digital and Graphic Design BA (Hons) Top-up

Course Overview

The one-year Top-up course is designed to refine skills already developed either through the two-year Foundation Degree, studying at another institution or prior industry knowledge. Modules are developed with an emphasis on theory and practice, alongside employability skills with a digital creative focus and industry mentor support.

You will be encouraged to establish a creative direction and identity for yourself in a wider context of design and its impact on social, political, environmental and technological arenas.

Each student has the opportunity to engage with an industry mentor to help them prepare for their next steps.

Students who study this programme will gain knowledge and skills in the following:

  • A working knowledge of industry-standard equipment and software.
  • A professional understanding of the strength and usage of visual communication.
  • An understanding of how to evaluate a client’s needs and to respond successfully to them.
  • Experience of working as part of a professional team, gained through group projects and work placements, and through entering national and international design competitions.
  • Your own visual signature, enabling you to generate and express your own personal ideas and beliefs.

In addition to our End of the Year Degree Show, students fundraise to showcase their work to industry at events such as D&AD where we have had many previous award winners.

Assessment

Assessment Methods

Assessment is based on 100% coursework and is undertaken through continuous modular assessment. Studio-based assignments are augmented by lectures, seminars and workshops throughout the year.

Entry Requirements and Progression

Progression

Given the broad range of disciplines that are covered, this course is an ideal foundation for progression into a successful career as a Graphic Designer, Illustrator or Web Designer in advertising, marketing and creative agencies or into postgraduate study. Progression into employment for design roles within the creative industries has been excellent with students enjoying creative careers swiftly after completing their degree.

Entry Requirements

Typically entrants will possess:

  • Foundation Degree
  • or an HND
  • or an equivalent Level 5 qualification in an appropriate discipline.
  • For the interview, you will be asked to produce a portfolio that must demonstrate your creative skills, subject knowledge and enthusiasm for study.

Fees

The fee for 2021/22 entry to this course is £7,800* per academic year of study

The fee for 2022/23 entry to this course will be set during Spring 2022.
